Southeast Alaska Dogs Organized for Ground Search, better known as SEADOGS, is an all-volunteer nonprofit search and rescue organization based in Juneau. Their mission is to train, certify, and deploy qualified search dog teams to assist law enforcement agencies in the search for and recovery of lost and missing persons. The team is responsible to the Alaska State Troopers and works closely with other search and rescue groups. Handlers who are certified with their canines, and Operations team members on the Callout list, are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
SEADOGS has been in operation and providing community outreach and education to promote canine search and rescue since 1978. Teams have responded to search, rescue, and recovery efforts for landslides, boating fatalities, incidences of suicide, and lost persons throughout Southeast and elsewhere in Alaska. Additionally, SEADOGS has participated in the Armenian and Loma Prieta (San Francisco) earthquake missions and train to maintain mission-ready status to respond wherever needed.
