In February 2012, the Juneau Medical Society Fund was established. The purpose of this fund is to support medical training and health related education for people in Southeast Alaska, including the funding of a scholarship to provide grants to individuals pursuing medical training who anticipate living and working in Southeast Alaska.
This fund grew out of meetings between the Juneau Community Foundation and the Juneau Medical Society. Initial donations to open this fund came from the Juneau Medical Society and Juneau Emergency Medical Associates. Additional funding has come from individual health providers.
Fund advisors include Anne Standerwick, John Raster, Jim Thompson, Steve Strickler, Kate Peimann, and Mignon Benjamin. The fund is actively seeking support from the Southeast medical community, both within and outside of Juneau.
The longer term goal is to continue to build this fund with the objective of reaching one million dollars within ten years. At that level we will be able to provide scholarship support to several people and look at other grants.
