Juneau Jazz & Classics is a music festival that builds community through adventurous musical experiences, purposeful arts education, and comprehensive community involvement with professional musicians.
In 1986 world-renowned violinist Linda Rosenthal had a dream to share the music she loves with her community. In May of 1987, Ms. Rosenthal along with Jazz Coordinator and fellow-founder Bob Banghart and a hard-working group of local musicians, community leaders and loyal supporters of the arts, launched the 1st annual Juneau Jazz & Classics.
The Festival has evolved and expanded each year to now include both the Spring and Fall Festivals, bringing in more than 20 professional musicians each year to perform and interact with the people of Juneau. We connect musicians to the community through in-school workshops, jam opportunities, Q&A’s, free performances ,and ticketed concerts throughout Juneau. We have partnered with surrounding southeast communities like Hoonah, Sitka, and Gustavus to ensure that live music can be heard beyond our waterways and mountains.
