The Alaska Carbon Reduction Fund (formerly the Juneau Carbon Offset Fund) is non-profit, Renewable Juneau’s unique approach to both improving the affordability of housing in coastal Alaska as well as reducing carbon emissions from oil-intensive home heating. The Fund reduces home heating costs for lower-income households by providing air-source heat pumps as direct replacements for fossil fuel heating systems. Each installed lower-income family heat pump eliminates the need for an annual average of 475 gallons of diesel heating fuel while reducing each home’s carbon output by 11,000 pounds per year.
Renewable Juneau designed the Alaska Carbon Reduction Fund to create a long-term, effective means to assist lower-income families with high home heating costs and associated carbon emissions. The Fund’s carbon-reducing options are ideal for both local individuals and businesses, as well as visitors to Alaska, building an income stream to fund the installation of heat pumps, lower annual utility costs, and reduce home-heating emissions.
Your participation will not only make these heating system conversions possible but will eliminate the carbon dioxide resulting from burning home heating diesel oil. The Fund’s website allows you to choose how to compensate for your carbon production with quick one-time options or a sustained monthly subscription plan.

What is my carbon impact?
So much of what we do every day generates carbon dioxide.. The combination of emissions from your home, transportation, travel, and daily life adds up to create your total carbon impact. Increasingly, many are seeking ways to reduce these impacts while supporting the places where they live and visit.
How will my responsible carbon-reducing ‘purchases’ make an impact?
Carbon reduction is a practical and effective way to address climate change and encourage an increased reliance on renewable energy. By supporting the AK Carbon Reduction Fund, you take responsibility for some of the carbon resulting from your day-to-day activities, while contributing to a more sustainable future. Your help will directly finance the elimination of use of home heating diesel oil.
“Heat Locally”
AK Carbon Reduction Fund projects replace diesel home heating systems with clean and efficient air source heat pumps powered by ‘locally produced’ clean and efficient rain and snow-fueled hydropower. These projects eliminate annual carbon emissions and slash heating costs for eligible families by up to 50%. Not only is CO2 eliminated, but families in need save much-needed money from their lowered monthly fuel bills. Additionally, the air in their homes is cleaner, drier, and healthier for all.
Space heating in Alaska can cost upwards of 25% of a family’s annual income. For some, even more. An average 1800 sq ft home heated with diesel heating fuel can burn 500 gallons each year and produce almost 11,000 pounds of annual carbon dioxide.
Please visit the Alaska Carbon Reduction Fund website to learn more and to start taking carbon action today. Together, we can all have a positive impact and create the change that we want to see.
