Established in 1973 as the official arts agency for the City and Borough of Juneau, the Council cultivates vibrant arts and cultural opportunities in Juneau and is a leader in building a strong, prosperous community where creativity and innovation thrive.
It has six strategic goals:
* Present Arts and Cultural Performances
* Support Community Arts Organizations
* Support Artists
* Provide Arts Education Opportunities
* Manage the Juneau Arts & Culture Center for the community
* Plan and Develop the Willoughby Arts Complex
Individual and community contributions, along with revenues from rental of the JACC, ticket sales, Lobby Shop sales, and some grant funding ensure that the Council is able to continue its service to the residents of Juneau and surrounding towns – this fund is established to ensure that work goes forward for generations to come.
