We created the Elizabeth Arvold Haas Memorial Fund to help make a difference for girls and young women in activities that were important to Liz and that may have helped her along life’s path.
Liz’s strong, independent, and passionate personality helped her accomplish many goals in her short life. She was a Juneau Jumper for 7 years, placing as high as third in national jump rope competitions. Liz earned numerous awards for her varsity basketball efforts over 4 years at JDHS. She was adept at many sports: soccer, softball, snowboarding and diving. She graduated with honors from high school and attended the University of Colorado.
Liz was creative and expressed it well in writing, drawing, beadwork, woodwork, glassblowing, and photography. She traveled to Mexico, South America, Thailand, Europe and loved meeting and learning from new friends in different cultures. Liz strongly believed that all of humanity and the universe are connected. Her full heart made her generous, and she expressed love in all that she did with wit, wisdom, humor, courage and a deeply caring spirit.
She left us with this “Blessing of Solitude”: May you recognize in your life the presence, power, and light of your soul. May you realize that you are never alone, that your soul in its brightness and belonging connects you intimately with the rhythm of the universe. May you have respect for your own individuality and difference. May you realize that the shape of your soul is unique, that you have a special destiny here, that behind the facade of your life there is something beautiful, good and eternal happening.
We hope her spirit and light shines on in those who may benefit from her fund.
