The Community Wellness Fund is a flexible endowment to meet changing social service and health needs of Juneau. While no one can predict what future needs will be, Juneauites can ensure that generations to come will have the philanthropic resources to address emerging needs and opportunities in this area. Juneau’s social service nonprofits need our support, and the Community Wellness Endowment is an easy and efficient way to make a difference. Gifts of all levels help grow this endowment and enable it to reach more people. The current goal is to grow this endowment to $1M to support long term grants, while continuing to provide significant funding to health and social service nonprofits every year.
Grantmaking
The Juneau Community Foundation has a grant program in place that already encourages collaboration, identifies gaps, and provides funding for the highest needs in our community. Our Professional Advisory Committee and Grants Committee review yearly applications and determine how available health and social service grant funds will be used. For the last several years, grants from several funds of the Foundation have been made to organizations to meet basic needs such as food, shelter, mental and physical health, suicide prevention, substance abuse treatment, and other services for those in need. The City and Borough of Juneau contributes to this annual grant program that provides about $2M per year in assistance.
