Anchorage, Alaska – October 1, 2024 – The Wells Fargo Rural Alaska Disaster Fund, a Field of Interest Fund held at The Alaska Community Foundation (ACF), awarded over $57,000 to three organizations supporting communities in response to recent natural disasters in the Southeast Alaska region. The funds have been directed to the Central Council Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska and the Juneau Community Foundation for their relief and recovery efforts from the Mendenhall flooding in Juneau and to the American Red Cross – Anchorage in recognition of their emergency assistance and disaster relief efforts in Alaska.
“We understand the urgency to support communities in Alaska and hope this contribution aids critical disaster recovery efforts for our neighbors in Juneau and Ketchikan,” said Sam Mazzeo, Senior Vice President and Alaska Commercial Banking Leader. “Alaska continues to be known for its grit and resilience, and in hard times, it’s important to show that we stand with local families and customers in the communities where we live and work.”
“The Wells Fargo Rural Alaska Disaster Fund exemplifies the power of philanthropy. By bringing together companies, families, and individuals, ACF ensures that resources are channeled to the areas where they can make the most impact. This collaborative approach, guided by local voices and leadership, addresses immediate recovery within these communities,” said Alexandra McKay, President and CEO of The Alaska Community Foundation.
The Wells Fargo Rural Alaska Disaster Fund was established to allow quick response to disasters in Alaska communities where Wells Fargo has a presence. These funds will assist with the Juneau and Ketchikan communities’ recovery from the severe flooding and the landslide, which caused significant damage to homes, infrastructure, and community resources.
