100 Women Who Care-Juneau (100WWC), a group of over 300 inspiring women who care deeply about Juneau and supporting local nonprofits in their efforts, recently donated over $27,000 to the Juneau Community Foundation’s Senior Citizen Support Fund.
100 Women Who Care works to make an immediate, direct, and positive impact in the community through the collective power of women. As Julie Nielsen explained, “All members donate $100 and together, it adds up to really help individual nonprofits. In addition, we get to learn about all the great things being accomplished by the different nonprofit organizations in town.” The group hosts four meetings a year, at which time they vote on which nonprofit to support. Since January 2020, the organization has grown from 120 women to over 300.
The Senior Citizen Services Support Fund was established at the Foundation in 2019 and provides advocacy and support for senior citizens in Juneau. It is the only fund at the Community Foundation that focuses solely on seniors. Sioux Douglas, a Fund Advisor, noted, “Advisors to the Fund are deeply grateful to the 100WWC donors for their generous contributions, and very pleased that the Foundation agrees with our recommendations to immediately award these new grants to organizations that provide valuable programs to benefit our elders.”
The increase to the fund by 100WWC will provide scholarships to students enrolled in the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training class at UAS, provide support for Catholic Community Service’s The Bridge Adult Day Program, their Southeast Senior Services Programs, and their Senior Nutrition Program.
