After losing their son in 2007, Sam and Gayle Trivette turned a personal tragedy into a committment to help others by setting up a memorial fund in Pete’s name. Since they started the fund, they’ve channeled donations into programs that have kept the topic of suicide awareness and prevention in the public eye. “One of the things we’ve found is that educating the public is key,” Sam said. “And, it just takes a lot of time, over time to reach more community members.”
Getting real results…
Sam and Gayle volunteer with the Juneau Suicide Prevention Coalition. They are gratified to see the suicide numbers decline since a concerted education effort began. “We think that grants from the fund are helping to make a difference. We’re very pleased to give our efforts to the community,” Sam said.
…through a community effort.
“We are so thankful to have an umbrella organization that allows us to have a place for us and others to give,” said Gayle. The Juneau Community Foundation’s Health Field of Interest Fund provides an easy way to support organizations that work together to improve the health of our community.
